Word of the day: Canela

Canela: cinnamon. We first came across this word when we saw these little packets in our hotel at breakfast the first morning. These little wrapped up mantecados de canela were in a bowl next to the packets of jam and butter so we naturally thought it was a spread to put on bread. It was cinnamon-y when we did so on our toast, and it was actually really good. Not the easiest thing to spread, but tasty just the same. We tried to explain to Cristina what this mantequilla de canela (cinnamon butter) was and how good it had been, she had no idea what we were talking about. WELLLL we were walking around today looking for the nearest Phone House to put minutes on our Sevillan cell phones when we found a supermercado and meandered inside. First, I found Special K Red Berries and immediately decided that was going to be necessary in the mornings. Too bad Cristina already bought us Corn Flakes (there's definitely a stereotype about Corn Flakes and Americans-- the Spanish think that's the only cereal we eat because every senora has bought it for their students so far, we've found out). Second, we found more of these mantecados de canela and took a picture to show Cristina (see above). When she saw the picture at lunch she died laughing. It's a cookie, not a spread for bread. She then went in the other room and brought back one for us to eat as a cookie. We tried it, and decided we still liked it better when you mashed it up and spread it on toast, so we did it again and she could not stop laughing.

 With the infamous cookie

Cristina and I crackin' walnuts  (good for your arteries, eat 3 a day...she says)

Oh and last night we went to an Irish pub close to our neighborhood and the Carolina game was on. So weird from 3000 miles away!

Oh and alsooo we played on the computer with Cristina after a dinner of pumpkin/potato soup. ¡QuĂ© fea!

Not looking forward to registering for classes. We got a syllabus of the class that we have to take for the first month...I read something about a presentation and an ensayo and immediately put the paper away. Time to plan some trips!
